“Ick hab Knast” was originally conceived as a recipe book. Favorite recipes from childhood and adulthood times shared by the women for wider public. Group of women and the project team were meeting on creative Fridays (Kreative Freitagen) at the JVA* für Frauen in Berlin-Pankow with the aim to exchange recipes and together create the book. Paper collages and stop-motion animations facilitated the process of communication in the multilingual team with diverse backgrounds.
*JVA = Justizvollzugsanstalten = correctional facilities

Original plan of the singular book of recipes changed, as project team came to the conclusion it was no longer sufficient to hold space for the recipes and stories that were shared during the process. A singular book became a bundle of 5 print-pieces: Introduction Leaflet, Recipes Book, Workshops Leaflet, Space Book and a Newspaper. In this way each part of the story could be represented in it’s own space by keeping the recipes as a connection bridge between creators and readers, while giving the insight into the project process (Introduction) and what one needs to start such project (Workshops), space that shaped (Space) it and critical analysis of it (Newspaper). Recipe book turned into the project that aimed to “Strengthen self-confidence and empathy for others through creativity”.
